Demodex folliculorum is a microscopic mite that survives on human skin without causing any harm. A great example of commensalism, these mites prefer areas with high sebum production on human skin and thus can be commonly found on nose, eyebrows and eyelids.

Rashmi is a PhD student at NCBS-TIFR, Bengaluru. She studies biochemistry and biophysics of proteins to understand how bacteria hijack human immune response. She also loves dancing and painting.
